Intercom And Referral Factory
You can connect your Intercom account directly to your referral program, allowing you to send your referred leads directly to your CRM. You can then qualify them with a simple lead status update inside your Salesforce account.
This means you will be able to automate more of your referral program which means you will be able to spend less time managing your referral program. It will also help you identify which of your referred leads are qualified so you know which referrers you need to reward as a result.
To run a hassle free referral campaign, you need:
- An Intercom account
- A Basic or Pro subscription with Referral Factory
Step by step guide to successfully integrate your referral campaign with Intercom
Connect your Intercom account by clicking on the settings tab on the left side navigation bar. Then click the ‘Connect’ button on the Intercom integration option.
*Note you can only connect one account at a time.
Now that your Referral Factory account is connected to Intercom, you need to set what information you want to push from your referral program into Intercom. This is done inside your campaign, on the settings section of your campaign. Switch on the ‘Do you want to qualify your referrals’ toggle.
There are two methods that you can use to qualify referred leads in Intercom:
- Qualify when user signed up
- Qualify when custom property changed
Qualify when a user signed up
When a person invited becomes a user or fills out the form on Step 3 of your referral campaign, that referral lead will automatically get sent to your Intercom account as a lead where they will follow the current process for all leads entering Intercom.
You can also choose what type of users you want to send to intercom, Referred users, Direct users or All users.
Qualify when a custom property is changed
Again, you can also choose what type of users you want to send to intercom, Referred users, Direct users or All users. You can select a property should be used to qualify referred leads. You can choose what the first value of the property should be as well as what the value of the property will change to when qualified.
Once you’ve chosen which users you want to send to Intercom, choose what information you want to send to Intercom. If you don’t want to send a particular data point then choose ‘Do not send’ and this information will not be pushed to Intercom but please note
*Intercom requires you to add an email address. If you don’t map the email address field, the referred lead will not be sent to Intercom.
As soon as your referral program is live and you start getting referrals, they’ll automatically be sent to your Intercom account. This usually takes between 2 – 3 minutes so if you don’t see your referred lead in Intercom immediately, remember to give it a bit more time to process.
Once your referred lead has taken the required action defined in your set up – Intercom will communicate with our system and automatically let Referral Factory know that lead has been qualified.
