How To Integrate Your Shopify Referral Campaign
- Once your campaign has been built, you can integrate your referral campaign with your Shopify store.
- To do this, navigate to the Settings step inside your campaign page builder.
- Under the “Do you want to qualify your referrals when they convert?” section, select Shopify.
- In order for our system to know if the referred user (or new customer) makes a purchase, you need to specify the minimum amount that the new customer must spend on a single purchase.
- The referral will only be qualified once this minimum amount specified is spent on a single purchase.
*Note: In order to successfully qualify a referral - the referred user must make a purchase using the same email address that they joined your referral campaign with so make this clear in your referral campaign.
The second step is selecting what will the order status change to when the referred user is qualified?.
- If you want to qualify a referral once they have paid for the purchase, then you would select the “Unfulfilled” status.
- If you only want to qualify the referral once the order has been fulfilled on your end then, you would select the “Fulfilled” status.
- If you only want to qualify the referral once the order has been paid and partially fulfilled on your end, then you would select the “Partially fulfilled” status.
In the example below, we have selected “Fulfilled”.
The third step is selecting which users you would like to send to Shopify.
- Direct Users – These are users that have joined your campaign directly through the campaign link that you share with them.
- Added Users – These are users that you have manually added to your referral campaign. You can add a user by uploading a CSV of your customers or your database.
- Referred Users – These are users that have joined the referral campaign using a link sent to them by a person referring.
The last step in setting up your E-Commerce referral campaign is mapping out what information from the referred user will go into Shopify.
IMPORTANT: Shopify requires you to send the email address of the new customer so make sure you select that field.
- Match the fields in Referral Factory with the relevant fields in your Shopify account. If you don’t want to send a particular data point then choose ‘Do not send’.
In the example below - we have chosen to send the First Name, Email Address, and Last Name of the referred user to Shopify.
As soon as your referral campaign is live and you start getting referrals, they’ll automatically be created as customers in your Shopify account.
- Navigate to your Shopify account.
- Click on the Customers tab on the left-hand side
- The referred users that joined your referral campaign will appear here.
How To Automatically Qualify Your Referrals In Shopify
Qualifying referrals makes it easy for you to see how many referrals you have. You will also be able to identify who needs to be rewarded for referring a new customer to your store.
If you selected “Unfulfilled” as the order status that qualifies a referral - once a new customer makes a purchase from your store and pays, then the order status will automatically be updated to paid and unfulfilled and the referral will be qualified in Referral Factory.
If the order needs to also be “Fulfilled” in order to qualify the referral, then you need to update the status of the order in Shopify from unfulfilled to fulfilled. This will automatically qualify the referral in Referral Factory.
Lastly, if the order needs to be at minimum ‘Partially fulfilled’ in order to qualify the referral, then you need to update the status of the order in Shopify from unfulfilled to partially fulfilled. This will automatically qualify the referral in Referral Factory.
In the example below, we can see that Byron has made a purchase. Because we chose to qualify a referral when an order is Fulfilled - as soon as we update Byron’s order status to “Fulfilled” it will immediately change his status in Referral Factory.
As you can see, Byron’s status has gone from:
Qualified = No
to
Qualified = Yes
From the example below, we can see that Jessica referred Byron. Now that Byron has been qualified we can see that Jessica has a converted referral and needs to be issued a reward.
How To Uninstall Shopify From Referral Factory
- Go to ‘Settings’ on the left-hand side
- Select ‘Disconnect’ under Shopify
Then select ‘Delete’.
Then select ‘Delete’ again.
Shopify will confirm Referral Factory has been uninstalled.
*Note: you can only connect one account at a time.
