To launch a referral program and integrate it with WooCommerce you will need:
- Admin access to your WordPress site.
- A WooCommerce-powered store.
- A Basic or Pro subscription with Referral Factory.

1. Build your referral campaign
Referral Factory allows you to build a referral program that's 100% on-brand. The drag-and-drop builder allows you to add your own logo, change the background, edit the font settings and add new content such as headlines, text, images, and videos. To get people referring - you can either upload a list of your customers to your campaign and email them their referral link from our platform or let them sign up for the campaign themselves. Referrers will be issued a unique referral link that they can easily share with their friends using the social media channels that you select.
Once a referrer receives their unique referral link they can easily share it with their friends. When their friends click on their link, it will take them to a landing page where they can join your referral campaign. This landing page is very important as it’s the first thing that invited friends or referred leads will see about your store. Make sure you include all the information you want new referred leads to see. The goal of this page is to get new referred leads to join the campaign and submit their details in order to get their discount to use on your WooCommerce store.

Once you've built your WooCommerce referral campaign, you can edit and customize the email notifications that you want to send to your existing customers and your new customers. You can send the referring customer an email when they join your campaign - when someone they refer makes a purchase as well as emails to remind them to keep referring. You can also send the new customer an email when they join your campaign - when they make their first purchase as well as reminder emails to use their discount code and purchase now.
2. Install the Referral Factory plugin on your WooCommerce-powered store
To successfully install the Referral Factory plugin you need to login into the admin section of your Wordpress site.
On the left-hand sidebar - click on Referral Factory and select "Settings" and enter your API token in the space provided. This help guide will show you how to get your API access token. Once you have entered your API access token, click "Authenticate".
3. Connect your referral campaign to your WooCommerce store
Click on the "Fetch Campaigns" button to pull through the list of campaigns from your Referral Factory account.
From the drop-down, select which referral campaign you want to connect your store to.
4. Create a new store account for referred leads
Referral Factory's WooCommerce plugin allows you to automatically create a store account for every person who has been invited to your referral campaign. In other words, you can create a store account for all of your referred leads. To do this, enable the "Create Campaign Lead" check box.
For example: Jessica refers Kirsty. When Kirsty joins your referral program, a store account will automatically be created for Kirsty in your WooCommerce store.

5. Automatically add a new customer to your referral campaign
When any new customer (regardless of how they found you) purchases something from your store, you can automatically add them to your referral campaign and issue them with a unique referral link so that they can refer their friends. To do this, make sure you enable the "Create Campaign Lead" check box.
For example: John comes across your store from a Facebook ad or a Google search, and they then buy something from your store. Once John makes a purchase, you can create a referral link for them and send it to them to share with their friends.
6. Automatically qualify a referral when a referred lead makes a purchase
To automatically qualify a referral when a person invited converts or makes a purchase on your store, enable the "Automatically Qualify Leads after Successful Purchase" check box.
You'll then need to set up the rules for what will count as a successful conversion.
Select the Lead Qualification Type. This means what action do you want to count as a successful referral. For example a successful referral is when a customer:
- Makes any purchase made from your store
- Spends more than a specific amount
- Purchases a specific product
Once you have selected the Lead Qualification Type, you need to enter the inbound webhook from your Referral Factory account. This help guide will show you how to find your inbound webhook
7. Automatically issue a reward to a referrer when a referral is qualified
Once a person referring has a successful referral, you can choose to automatically issue a reward to them in the form of a discount code or discount coupon. Please note, in order to do this - you must be using WooCommerce's built-in marketing coupons. *If you are using a third-party application to issue rewards, you can book a call with a Referral Factory expert to build this for you.
Firstly, you need to select the Coupon Type you want to issue as a reward. Will this be:
- Free shipping
- A percentage of the total cart
- A fixed amount (of the total cart)
- A fixed amount (of each product)
Then enter the value amount of the coupon you are going to generate. For example 20% off or $20 off.
If you would like your coupons to be stackable, enable the "Stackable Coupon?" check box. This means that referrers would be able to use their coupons in conjunction with other coupons.
For example: Jessica gets 10% off for referring Kirsty. If the coupon is stackable she could use her referral coupon along with a coupon from another promotion.
If you would like referrers to be able to use their coupons to get a discount on items that are already on sale, leave the "Exclude Sale Items?" check box unchecked.
Click the Save button to save your settings.
8. Launching your WooCommerce referral campaign
Once you have built your referral campaign for your ecommerce store, the next thing you need to do is promote it. Referral marketing is an ongoing process, the more people that know about it, the more referrals you'll get. Fact: referral programs that perform the best are ones that are frequently marketed.
