How To Install A Referral Program Pop-Up On Your Website or Web App

With Referral Factory, getting website referrals is easy with a referral program pop-up.

Updated over 2 months ago

In this guide, we take you through the steps to install a referral program pop-up on your website or on a logged-in environment like a web app.

What Is A Referral Program Pop-Up?

A referral program pop-up allows you to embed your referral program pages directly into your website, blog, web app, or logged-in environment triggered by a button or action of your choice. This pop-up serves as a convenient way for your visitors or users to access and participate in your referral program without leaving your website or app. It provides a seamless user experience and encourages more people to refer your business to their friends and contacts.

To make it easy for you to get more website referrals, Referral Factory's pop-up function works by taking your referral program pages and essentially repackaging them as an embeddable pop-up. We provide you with a ready-to-use script that can be inserted into your website or web app.

Note that there are two options for the referral program pop-up: "Logged Out" and "Logged In"

Option 1: A standard "logged out" referral program pop-up where any visitor to your website will be able to see Step 1 for the Person Referring where they can sign up to get their unique referral link and start referring their friends.

Option 2: A "logged-in" referral program pop-up where your logged-in users will be automatically added to your referral program, generating their unique referral link. In this case, the pop-up will show Step 2 for the Person Referring.

What You Need

1. Any Referral Factory plan.

2. A published referral campaign.

3. A no-code website builder like WordPress, Webflow, or Squarespace OR a web developer.

❗️ Remember that the copy and design of your referral program pop-up will pull directly from your campaign pages. If you have multiple campaigns, be sure to select the correct one!

Installing A "Logged Out" Referral Program Pop-Up on a Website

→ Navigate to the Promote section inside the campaign builder.

→ Click Promote your campaign on your website or blog.

→ Make sure to select the tab titled Website Pop-Up.

Copy the pop-up class name and the code that you need to insert on your website. Please note that this code is case-sensitive.

→ Go to the source code for your website.

→ Paste the pop-up class name into the button you want to trigger your pop-up.

→ Paste the pop-up script right before the </body> tag on the same page as the button.

❗️ If you're installing the pop-up on your no-code website, please ensure that you are able to edit the button css class. If you are unable to do so, the pop-up will not install correctly.

Installing A "Logged In" Referral Program Pop-Up on a Web App or User Dashboard

If your users or customers have a portal or dashboard that they can log into, you can also embed the pop-up inside that logged-in environment. This will allow your users to bypass Step One of the Pages for the Person Referring and allow them to refer in one click 👏

→ Navigate to the Promote section inside the campaign builder.

→ Click Promote your campaign in a logged-in environment.

→ Make sure to select the tab titled Logged-In Pop-Up.

Copy the pop-up class name and the code that you need to insert on your webpage. Please note that this code is case-sensitive.

→ Go to the source code for your webpage.

→ Paste the pop-up class name into the button you want to trigger your pop-up.

→ Paste the pop-up script right before the </body> tag on the same page as the button.

Replace loggedInUserFirstName and loggedInUserEmail with the variables you use in your own system.

How To Install On-Scroll Or Timer-Triggered Pop-Ups

If you want to create pop-ups customised to your needs, such as on-scroll and timer-triggered pop-ups, follow the same instructions as above but use an invisible button and code the trigger using Javascript.
